Making Canes

I am often asked how polymer canes are made. There are many useful sites on internet with very detailed instructions. You can find many instructions, tips and tricks at Polymer Clay Central. Some time ago I made some instructions for my friends as well. It's not in English, but pictures might be helpful - flower cane, my mokume gane pot (which was partly presented here few posts back) and natasha bead.

Here are the latest canes I made - I made few pics while making each one to show how they were put together. There is also a shot of few pendants I made of scrap clay. We have terribly hot weather these days and it's not really appropriate time to work with clay... clay is too sticky, although I have it in fridge, and patterns can very easily deform. Not to mention that it is almost impossible to make nice cuts of canes for making beads. I guess I will have to find something else to do now... maybe posting here more often!

Meet Joe Black

From: Meet Joe Black (1998), which I watched again yesterday.

PARRISH: Well, it worries me. I want you to get swept away. I want you to evitate.
I want you to sing with rapture and dance like a dervish.
SUSAN: That's all?
PARRISH: Be deliriously happy. Or at least leave yourself open to be.
SUSAN: 'Be deliriously happy'. I'm going to do my upmost --
PARRISH: I know it's a cornball thing but love is passion, obsession, someone you can't live without. If you don't start with that, what are you going to end up with? I say fall head over heels. Find someone you can love like crazy and who'll love you the same way back. And how do you find him? Forget your head and listen to your heart. I'm not hearing any heart. Run the risk, if you get hurt, you'll come back. Because, the truth is there is no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love -- well, you haven't lived a life at all.You have to try. Because if you haven't tried, you haven't lived.
SUSAN: Bravo.
PARRISH: Aw, you're tough.
SUSAN: I'm sorry. But give it to me again. The short version.
PARRISH: Stay open. Who knows? Lightning could strike.

P.S. We are all going to die one day, that's the fact - and I just hope that Death really looks like Brad Pitt! :))

To Sleep Or Not To Sleep

I have troubles with sleeping. Every day I stay up too late. It's because I know I would not be able to fall asleep if I go to bed. Sometimes I watch TV, but that doesn't really help. It depends on the program, which is usually boring and keeping me awake even longer. Too often I sit in front of computer. Or playing with clay. Or reading. Or doing something else. My favourite sleeping scenario is watching a really good movie, falling asleep soon after it starts and then moving from living room to bedroom after few hours of sleeping on sofa (next day sleeping scenario is the same, just with the addition of searching for the scene in the movie I last remember from previous night) . I usually don't go to bed before midnight, and I have to get up at 6 am. And then I am often tired and sleepy during the day. And not enough sleeping combined with the horrible weather we are having at the moment is killing me.

I have started to work some more with polymer clay lately again. I have been asked to make a pendant and that is causing me serious troubles! I have made whole tray of pendants (which are not baked yet, I will show them when they are finished) but I am not sure if there is one apropriate for a man. Oh well, I will keep trying. For the meantime, few pics of my "old" creations from past few months, made for easter and flower swaps.
